About Dr. Hughes
Dr. Kathleen Hughes is a Professor of Psychology for Pasco-Hernando State College. She served as the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department Chair for Arts and Sciences for six years. She also teaches part time for her alma mater, Capella University. Dr. Hughes is a Past-President for Psi Beta, the National Honor Society in Psychology for Community Colleges. In 2012, Dr. Hughes was awarded the NISOD Excellence Award.

Dr. Hughes has worked in higher education for 18 years as both an administrator responsible for assessment, curriculum, and student success and as a faculty member, teaching both face-to-face and online classes. Her first career was in the area of human-computer interaction where she held titles such as usability specialist and director of user experience. She has served as an author for a number of publishing projects with a specific expertise in developing digital activities.

Dr. Hughes is determined to help students to connect theory to practice and her specific interest and focus is on applied experiences such as service learning and research experiences and helping students to develop employability skills and the ability to showcase those skills!
​
Dr. Hughes is also a motivational speaker and owner of Kat's Chats, a social media resource to help people have better tomorrows!

Dr. Hughes has designed curriculum to help her students develop a mastery of psychology skills as they relate to the workplace.
Research into Skills
Dr. Hughes's research projects explore how to measure students' skill learning and what factors predict students' ability to learn employability skills.

Along with her colleague, Dr. Kimberley Duff, Dr. Hughes has developed digital activities for introductory psychology students.
